In loving memory of
Mr. Laverne E. Leonard
March 3, 1930 – June 6, 2021
Laverne passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Lady Minto Hospital of Cochrane on Sunday June 6, 2021 at the age of 91. He was the husband of the late Pauline Leonard (nee Doré) (2001). He leaves behind his special friend Betty Picard, his children: Lynn (Doug) Theobald, Gary (Julie) Leonard, Rochel (Harold) Blackwell, Alan (Lise) Leonard, his grandchildren: Ryan (Allison), Brent (Lisa), Gregory, Steven, Derek, Brandon (Gabrielle), Marie-Lise, Jesse, Sarah and his great-grandchildren: Leah, Brayden, Mattéo as well as his step-great-grandchildren: Ella, Sophi and Leah.
He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Denise and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. Laverne was predeceased by his parents Jules and Blanche (nee Blondeau) Leonard and all of his siblings.
Laverne was a long-time member of the Cochrane Lion’s Club and was a 3rd Degree of the Knight’s of Columbus. His passion was playing golf and Laverne was still an avid golfer at the age of 90. You could find him teeing off every morning at 10:00 am with his long-time golf buddies. Giving of his time was Laverne’s natural way and he held numerous volunteer positions with the Cochrane Lee Golf Club, hockey teams and service clubs over the years. Even at the age of 90, Laverne was an active bowler at Butch’s Bowling Alley and could be found tearing up the lanes with his team the “Polar Bears’’. Laverne had many friends and fun, laughter and comradery could be found whenever he was with them.
More importantly, was Laverne’s special relationship and bond with his grandchildren.
Laverne was given the prestige title of ”the Captain” by his grandchildren at the on-set of their early years.
He led the ‘family ship’ with firmness, integrity and pure love to this date and we are all better and stronger human beings because of him.
“Always live life fully, love deeply, laugh often and celebrate all you have been blessed with”
This was Laverne… this was our Dad!
