À la douce mémoire de

M. Léopold (Léo) Génier
(« le gars du gaz »)
3 aout 1941  – 9 janvier 2018

C’est avec tristesse que sa famille vous annonce son décès le mardi 9 janvier 2018 à l’hôpital Lady Minto de Cochrane, à l’âge de 76 ans. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Rose-Hélène (née Côté),  ses enfants : Paul A. (Diane) Génier de Timmins, Léanne (Marc) Bédard de Val Caron, Yvan (Nancy) Génier de Timmins, ses petits-enfants : Renée (Ryan Jean) Génier, Jean-François Génier, Sylvianne Génier (Jean-Michel Duval), Caroline Génier, Nicolas Bédard, Pascale Bédard, Camil Génier, Adèle Demers, Valérie Demers, Désirée Demers, ses arrière-petits-enfants : Karter, Kenric et le futur bébé.  Léo laisse également ses sœurs : Elvine (Joe) Colazzi, Renée (John) Parker et de nombreux neveux, nièces, autres parents et amis.  Il fut prédécédé par ses parents Léo & Fernande (née Chartrand) Génier et son frère André (Raymonde) Génier.

Léo était un époux et un père dévoué.  Il a travaillé pour plus de 35 ans comme superviseur au service de la compagnie de gaz naturel pour les communautés de Smooth Rock Falls et de Cochrane.  Il était toujours au rendez-vous pour aider son client, son prochain, sa communauté et sa paroisse.  Il était aussi fervent défenseur de sa culture francophone.  Plusieurs l’ont connu comme un homme de principe qui ne reculait pour personne et qui avait une patience sans pareil.  De son vivant, Léo était un fier Sire chevalier de Colomb au 4ieme degré , un trappeur, collectionneur, pompier volontaire mais sa plus grande passion depuis 15 ans était celle de donner généreusement de son temps pour les missions de développement et d’aide avec les bonnes œuvres de Sœur Maude en République Dominicaine. 

La famille accueillera parents et amis à la Maison Funéraire Génier Gauthier, 70, 7e Ave. sud, Cochrane, le vendredi 12 janvier 2018 de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h et ainsi que le samedi 13 janvier 2018 à 9h30 à 10h30. Les funérailles auront lieu le samedi 13 janvier 2018 à 11h à l’Église Transfiguration de Cochrane. Père Rémi Lessard présidera la célébration.

Léopold (Léo) Génier
Affectionately known as ‘The natural gas man’

It is with heavy hearts that his family announces his passing on Tuesday January 9th, 2018 at the Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane at the age of 76. He leaves in mourning his wife Rose-Hélène (nee Côté), his children Paul A. (Diane) Génier of Timmins, Léanne (Marc) Bédard of Val Caron, Yvan (Nancy) Génier of Timmins; his grandchildren: Renée (Ryan Jean) Génier, Jean-François Génier, Sylvianne Génier(Jean-Michel Duval), Caroline Génier, Nicolas Bédard, Pascale Bédard, Camil Génier, Adèle Demers, Valérie Demers, Désirée Demers, his great-grandchildren : Karter, Kenric and the soon-to-arrive baby.  Léo also leaves in mourning his sisters Elvine (Joe) Colazzi, and Renée (John) Parker, several nieces & nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.  He is predeceased by his parents Léo & Fernande (née Chartrand) Génier and his brother André (late Raymonde) Génier.

Léo was a devoted husband and father.  He worked for more than 35 years as town supervisor for the natural gas company in the communities of Smooth Rock Falls and Cochrane.  He always stood at the ready for his clients, his fellow citizens, his community and his parish.  He was also a avid defender of his francophone culture.  Many will remember Leo as a man of integrity and honesty, standing to defend his principles and values, never accepting second best as an answer.  His patience was impressionable.  In his living years, Leo was a proud member, a Sir, of the Knights of Columbus, at the 4th degree. He was a collector, trapper and also a volunteer firefighter but his most important passion in these last 15 years, was to generously give of his time to the charitable missions of development and help in the Dominican Republic under the guidance of Sister Maude, of the daughters of Mary.  

Visitation will be held at the Génier Gauthier Funeral Home, 70, 7e Ave. South, Cochrane on Friday, January 12th, 2018 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7pm to 9pm and also on January 13th, 2018 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.  The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 2018 at 11am at the Transfiguration Church with Father Rémi Lessard officiating.
